Ruling alliance confident of impeachment move passage







ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani chaired a joint meeting of the parliamentary parties of the ruling coalition here Monday during which it was decided to bring a unanimous impeachment motion in the parliament against the President. MNAs from PPP, PML-N, ANP and JUI-F as well as FATA attended the meeting held at the Parliament House.
Briefing the media on the decisions taken in the meeting, Minister for Finance Syed Naveed Qamar said that the sitting discussed the move to impeach President Pervez Musharraf in detail and all members from the ruling alliance assured full support in this regard.
“It has been decided that the incumbent session of the National Assembly would continue till the passage of impeachment motion or resignation by the president,” he said.
Prime Minister Gilani took the participants into confidence over the impeachment move by the ruling coalition while all the members extended full support to the motion, he added.
Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf told the media that Prime Minister Gilani also briefed the MPs of the ruling alliance on his tours of the United States, China and Sri Lanka.
The PM also briefed them on the impeachment move, he said.
PML-N Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra told journalists that
the massive attendance by the MPs from the ruling alliance reflected that the impeachment move against the president would fully succeed.
