Nine mountaineers feared dead on K-2
GILGIT: At least nine mountaineers were feared dead following struck by heavy avalanches during their descent from world’s second highest peak, K-2, Deputy Commissioner Skardu Wazir Ishfaq said.
The mountain climbers, three Koreans, two Neapolitans, two Dutch, one Irish and one Pakistani- were returning from the summit on Friday when the accident took place near camp 4 which is situated at an altitude of 8200 meter, said establishment officer of district administration Skardu, Musa Ali, adding three mountaineers were stilling missing.
Musa Ali said four to five expeditions were scaling and the administration had no idea exactly which expedition lost their members but what was sure that is that the people had returned and reach at camp 2 which is near to the base camp and tomorrow they would reach at base camp than things will clear.
“We would be able to tell any thing officially when concerned people will reach at base camp and communication between us is established” he told newa ageny by Phone.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Shigar valley, which host the K-2, Momin Shah told news agency that the climbers and the tour operators were in touch through satellite phone and administration had no idea about the nature of loss they had suffered.
